L. Joyce Parris, daughter of the late Desmar Franklin Hatch and Lillie Estalea Woods Hatch was born on January 23, 1938 in Senath, Missouri and departed this life on August 15, 2010 at her home in Cape Girardeau surrounded by her family after battling cancer for over two years. Mrs. Parris was 72.
She was a 1955 graduate of Senath High School and retired from the Stoddard County Circuit Clerk’s office in 2000. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson, a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt. She loved Cardinals Baseball and to travel, having visited all but three states.
On November 25, 1955 she was united in marriage to Harold Eugene Parris, Sr. in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Mr. Parris preceded her in death on March 27, 1996.
Her loving survivors include two sons, Harold Eugene Parris, Jr. of Columbia and Perry Mitchell Parris and wife Mary of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by two sisters, Mavis Jones and husband Bobby of Senath, Missouri and Lareva Richardson and husband Danny of Greenwood, Arkansas; by two brothers, James Lanoice Hatch and wife Sharon of St. Louis, Missouri and Max Hatch and wife Anna of Staunton, Virginia; by one brother-in-law Robert A. Parris and wife Lorene of West Plains, Missouri; by four grandsons, Gregory Parris, Timothy Parris, Atticus Parris and Zebediah Parris; by a special friend, Billy Hawkins of Senath, Missouri and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son, Joshua Scott Parris.
Pallbearers will include Gregory Parris, Timothy Parris, Atticus Parris, Brandon Richardson, Mike Hatch, Alan Jones and honorary pallbearer Zebediah Parris.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dr. Michael B. Parris of the First Baptist Church of Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that all memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of L. Joyce Parris.
