BiographyFlossie Alberta Gaines, daughter of the late Jessie Alvin Jackson and Sallie Bennie Taylor Jackson was born on March 24, 1923 in Sardis, Mississippi and departed this life on June 13, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 88 years.
Mrs. Gaines was a former employee at Elder Manufacturing for over forty years and retired from Thorngate LTD. at Chaffee, Missouri in 1987. After retirement, she became an avid gardener, sharing her vegetables with neighbors and friends, and baking cookies and her famous apple bread for the whole neighborhood. Alberta had been a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church since March 18, 1951, making her the oldest member. She had taught Sunday school, worked in Bible School, and was secretary for many years. As a loving Christian Lady, she adored her family, and was a real influence on each of them. Mrs. Gaines was also a member of Missouri Southern Healthcare Auxiliary for 20 years, and was named Auxiliarian of the year in 1988.
On July 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to E.C. "Jake" Gaines in Dexter, Missouri. Mr. Gaines preceded her in death on February 26, 1988.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judy Hubbard and Roger of Dexter; four grandsons, Scott Wolpers of Leopold, Missouri, Brad Hubbard of Dexter, Kevin Wolpers of Jackson, Missouri, and Rick Wolpers of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by one granddaughter, Kim Midkiff of Dexter; by ten great-grandchildren, Caleb and Curtis Wolpers, Jake and Devin Wolpers, Taylor Wolpers, Jackson and Jeb Hubbard, Tate Midkiff, Zach Midkiff and Lexa Midkiff; also by one great-great-granddaughter, Faith Midkiff
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Kay Wolpers, by one brother, Lester Bedford Jackson, and grandson-in-law, Robert Midkiff Sr.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. June 15, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted on June 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Dean Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Ezell Cemetery in Dexter.
